From the Principal – 19 June 2023

Welcome to the final week of Term 2.

A summary of key points:

  • Virtue of the week – Perseverance
  • School Sport Victoria Fixtures
  • College Assembly, Friday 23rd June commencing at 2.20pm in the Multi Purpose Hall
  • Semester 1 Reports
  • Day of Recollection for staff
  • Papal Encyclical, Divini Illius Magistri of Pope Pius XI.
  • Mobile Phones
  • The College will reopen on Monday 17th July and the students will commence term 3 on Tuesday 18th July.

This week staff and students will explore the virtue of Perseverance, whereby we take the steps necessary to carry out objectives in spite of difficulties.

We wish our Year 7 – 8 Netball, Badminton and Soccer teams all the best for their respective sports fixtures on Thursday 22nd July.

Each child will receive a semester 1 report at the commencement of the mid year break. These reports are a window into the child’s progress, at this point in the academic year. They should be seen as a tool to support student learning across semester 2 and help identify areas of exemplary performance, as well as those in need of support and assistance.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the whole College Assembly this Friday 23rd June commencing at 2.20pm in the Multi Purpose Hall. The assembly will provide the opportunity to not only finish the term together but also recognise those that have achieved success throughout the term.

On Thursday 15th July, the staff participated in a day of recollection. Three conferences were provided by Fr Daniel Themann across the day. Fr Themeann posed to the staff a number of points for contemplation in relation to their vocation. For myself it was the call to go to the full extension of your Grace for our students which I have continued to revisit over the weekend.

Fr Themann regularly referred to the Papal Encyclical, Divini Illius Magistri of Pope Pius XI. If you have not yet, I encourage all parents to read this encyclical which describes the purpose of education from a traditional Catholic perspective.

The College understands that parents may permit students to bring a mobile phone to school if they are travelling independently to and from the College. Where this is the case, the mobile phone is to be stored in the College Administration Office from when the student arrives at the College, until they depart. Upon receiving their mobile phone from the office at the conclusion of the day it is to be placed in the students bag until they are off the College grounds.

Outside of this reason, the College does not permit students to carry a mobile phone on their person or have them stored in their locker.

Where mobile phones are seen during the day they will be confiscated and stored securely at the College Administration Office. The device will be logged in the College’s Log of Confiscations, including the date/time the confiscation took place and to which parent the phone will be returned to.

The device will only be returned to the student’s parent after a conversation with either the Deputy Principal or Principal.

Families are able to contact a student through the College administration office during the day should the need arise.

The College will reopen on Monday 17th July and the students will commence term 3 on Tuesday 18th July.

I hope that your family has a safe and restful mid-term break.

God Bless,

Kieran O’Dwyer
