This week we explore the Virtue of Circumspection. Circumspection is the careful consideration of circumstances and consequences.

A thought from Archbishop Lefebvre

Because the sacrifice of our Lord is at the heart of the Church, at the heart of our salvation, at the heart of our souls, everything that touches the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass touches us profoundly, each one of us, personally. We have to participate in this sacrifice for the salvation of our souls.

On Tuesday 30th April our Year 4 – 6 Athletic team competed at the Divisional round of the School Sport Victoria Athletics at the Joe Carmody Athletics Track in Sale. All students represented themselves and the College exceptionally well. Congratulations to Samuel Soefting, Marius Zaccari and Marina Sorial who have progressed through to the Regional round later this year.

Our Year 7 – 10 students attended their House Camps Monday through Wednesday last week.  Our young ladies travelled to the Summit, and our young men attended Stringybark Lodge. The reports from both camps were that our students pushed themselves out of their comfort zone in all of the activities that were undertaken. There appeared to be many tired students arriving back on Wednesday afternoon. This concludes our Adventure Education and Camps Program for the year. We look forward to building on the wonderful experiences provided for the students next year.

A reminder that parents and carers are not permitted to move around the College without first signing in at reception, located within the main Administration building. All parents are encouraged to obtain a Working with Children Check Card to ensure adherence to the College’s Risk Management Policy and Procedures. Further information can be obtained via https://www.vic.gov.au/working-with-children-check

Today, Wednesday 8th May the Parents and Friends will hold their Annual Mothers Day stall here at the College. Students will have the opportunity to purchase plants, chocolates and choose from an array of gifts for their mother. The Parents and Friends will be accepting both cash and card on the day.

All students undertaking a Unit 3/4 sequence are required to complete the General Assessment Test (GAT), including students who are unscored or studying for a Vocational Major Certificate.

The GAT is utilised by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority (VCAA) as part of the final check on external assessment scores and, in some studies, for statistical moderation. In both of these cases, it can influence a student’s VCE scores.

Scored VCE students should also note that the GAT is used to calculate a derived examination score (DES). Students may need to apply for a DES if they are unable to complete a written examination in one or more subjects. This is a very important back-up for students leading into the final exams.

An information brochure on the GAT has been prepared by VCAA for students. You can download a copy here – https://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/assessment/vce-assessment/general-achievement-test/Pages/index.aspx

The GAT in 2024 is scheduled for Tuesday 18 June.

A reminder that this week, the College will be closed on Ascension Thursday (9th May), and Friday (10th May) will be a student-free day as the staff complete an in-service day.

I wish all of the Mothers a special Mothers Day this Sunday.

God Bless,

Kieran O’Dwyer

Principal.
