This week we explore the Virtue of Sincerity. Sincerity is displaying trustfulness in our words and actions; honesty and enthusiasm towards others.
A thought from Archbishop Lefebvre
If prudence is not enlightened by the virtue of faith in order to know exactly what our last end is, then our judgement may well deviate. We run the risk of not sufficiently considering the importance of the goods which God wants to give us, the importance of the spiritual compared to the material, the importance of eternity compared to time. The awareness of the shortness of life, the difficulties we have in resisting temptations, lead us to make certain decisions that we would not otherwise have made.
It is with a great sense of excitement that I welcome the College community to Term 2 of the 2024 academic year.
This term, we will strive to build upon the wonderful work completed in Term One, which supports our shared vision of forming in each youth the true and perfect Catholic and celebrates the pursuit of excellence across all fields.
I would like to remind you that it is time for the transition into our winter uniform. While it is not compulsory until Monday, 29th April, I strongly encourage students to wear either their full winter or full summer uniform during this time and not a mixture of both.
Parents will have received communication regarding the changes in the girls’ uniform attire. After careful consideration, effective immediately, the cream Botta hat (summer hat) will be the sole formal hat requirement for girls’ uniform attire, to be worn throughout the year. This decision has been made in alignment with our ongoing efforts to streamline our dress code while ensuring it remains appropriate and conducive to our College’s environment.
With any decision there are a number of factors that are taken into consideration. In making the decision regarding the hats, there were factors relating to our uniform supplier that were out of our control that played a significant part in the outcome. We believe that this adjustment will simplify the formal attire requirements for our female students while maintaining a sense of uniformity and professionalism within our College community.
On Thursday, 18th April, we will hold our annual College Photo Day. Students are required to attend the day in their full winter uniform. The College has only received forms from the provider today, these will be sent home with students. Attached with this communication is a What you Need to Know flyer providing further details regarding information about the school photos process. Please note the cut-off for free delivery of orders is Thursday, 25th April, and orders placed after that will incur a $8.95 fee.
On Wednesday, April 24th, we will hold our College Cross Country from 10.30am to 1.45pm and Parent-Teacher Interviews from 2.00pm to 6.00pm. Students are permitted to attend the day in their full Physical Education uniform, and they will be dismissed at 2.00pm.
Parent-teacher-student interviews provide families with an opportunity to:
- Learn more about your child’s academic, emotional and social development
- Meet and get to know your child’s teachers
- Help your child’s teachers understand more about your child
- Make plans with the teacher about how you can both support your child
- Show your child that you’re interested in their learning needs and what’s happening for them.
It is important that you have read through your child’s report and think about what you want to discuss. The interview time tends to pass quickly so it helps to be well prepared. You may like to formulate a list of questions to help you remember what you want to talk about.
This term will see the commencement of the Kolbe Learning Centre Swimming Program. We highly value the importance of learning to swim from a young age and support our students to become confident and capable swimmers through our Primary Swimming Program. Commencing on the 13th May, the program will run for three weeks each Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
A reminder that supervised silent study is available for students in the Library each Monday – Thursday commencing next Monday, 22nd April, from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. This supervised silent study is strongly recommended for all students from Year 5 and above to assist in developing concentration and in preparation for exam conditions. It is not recommended for students in Years 4 and below. This is due to their heightened level of fatigue and, therefore, inability to support an environment created for silent study. The College will be introducing a new sign-in process for this program in order to enhance the level of care provided. This process will be communicated to you during the week.
Please note that the College will be closed on the following dates this term:
- Thursday 25th April: ANZAC Day
- Thursday 9th May: Ascension Thursday
- Friday 10th May: College Staff Inservice Day
- Monday 10th June: King’s Birthday
God Bless.
