This week we explore the Virtue of Docility. Docility is the willingness to be taught.
A thought from Archbishop Lefebvre
God is Heaven. Jesus Christ is God. So when we receive God in our hearts, we can say in all truth: “I have Heaven in my soul. I have Paradise in my soul.” We should be united to that Paradise in such a way that we prepare the Paradise of forever, which will consist in being in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ for eternity. Only the true religion could possess that kind of treasure. Only God could have invented such beautiful things, such great things, things so expressive of His love and of His charity for Us.
Thank you to the Parents and Friends for running the wonderful Mothers Day stall last Wednesday. I am sure that there were many Mothers, from within our College community, waking up to amazing gifts on Sunday. I would also like to extend my gratitude to the parents who have volunteered their time to assist with the Kolbe Learning Centre Swimming Program.
On Thursday 16th May, we will hold our first Community Engagement Session for the term. The session will commence at 9.00am and a light morning tea will be provided. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
This Friday 17th May our Year 7 – 10 students will compete in the Alliance Francaise Competition. This year’s theme is the Olympic Games / Les Jeux Olympiques. We wish all students who will be competing the very best.
It is difficult to believe that Summer has long gone. The days are becoming cooler, and this is the signal for all students to buckle in for solid blocks of learning leading up to a series of assessments. This starts next Monday, 20th May, for our Year 11s with their Unit 1 Exams. It is important that students be present, not just in respect to attendance but also showing up for classes ready to actively engage with the learning that is provided.
This may require students across all year levels to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. This is a state in which we build capacity in ourselves as learners. It starts in simple ways, such as engaging in classroom discussions, answering questions in class and seeking assistance from teachers when unsure or not understand concepts. Students have been discussing in their morning Homeroom successful study habits and the importance of understanding key command terms in assessment questions.
I encourage parents to check in with their children to develop an understanding, to identify any gaps that are present in their learning. These gaps may have also been discussed at the Parent Teacher Interviews. Therefore, it is important to ensure the gaps are being addressed. Your child’s teacher will also be instructed to undertake a similar task.
God Bless,
Mr Kieran O’Dwyer
