FROM
THE VICE PRINCIPAL …. PUNCTUALITY
Dear
Parents,
It
has been observed for some time now, that punctuality
in arriving at school to drop off and pick up your children
has deteriorated to the extent that it is becoming quite
a widespread problem.
It
provides a good example of the need to be constantly aware
of our human nature tendencies. We attempt to provide
our students with virtuous characteristics, of which punctuality
is one. If it becomes habitual to be not punctual it is
our human nature that requires apprehension. If there
is no redressing of this human nature it will continue
in the bad habit. Habitual lack of punctuality therefore,
needs to be redressed.
Punctuality
is going to be monitored more closely for the rest of
this year. If it is observed as a persistent problem for
particular families, you can expect to receive a letter
about the problem.
The
student handbook indicates that students should be in
attendance at school by the time the “warning”
bell rings at 8.25. Parents are asked to make a special
effort to commit themselves to meeting this requirement
as a first step in being more punctual. Mr Harley Chipperfield

Happiness in Goodness
Reflections, Counsels, Prayers and Devotions

The following Reflection is found in this little treasured

The
Practice of Charity
Seek occasions to please the Heart of Jesus by the practice
of holy charity, in always thinking and speaking well
of your neighbour, assisting the poor according to your
ability, spiritually and corporally, considering Jesus
Christ in their person, and doing nothing to them which
you would not wish to be done to yourself. Be patient
toward all, in order to give confidence to each one, and
above all to the poor who come to you in their need. Be
a friend to every one and an enemy to no one; then you
will become like unto God. Charles IX, King of France,
once asked the poet Tasso who, in his estimation, was
happiest. Tasso replied without hesitation: “God.”
“Everybody knows that,” continued the king;
“but who is next?” And Tasso answered: “He
who becomes most like to God.”

Saint
of the Day
29th
October: ST. NARCISSUS: Bishop.
ST.
NARCISSUS was consecrated Bishop of Jerusalem about the
year 180. He was already an old man, and God attested
his merits by many miracles, which were long held in memory
by the Christians of Jerusalem. One Holy Saturday in the
church the faithful were in great trouble, because no
oil could be found for the lamps which were used in the
Paschal feast. St. Narcissus bade them draw water from
a neighboring well, and, praying over it, told them to
put it in the lamps. It was changed into oil, and long
after some of this oil was preserved at Jerusalem in memory
of the miracle. But the very virtue of the Saint made
him enemies, and three wretched men charged him with an
atrocious crime. They confirmed their testimony by horrible
imprecations: the first prayed that he might perish by
fire, the second that he might be wasted by leprosy, the
third that he might be struck blind, if they charged their
bishop falsely. The holy bishop had long desired a life
of solitude, and he withdrew secretly into the desert,
leaving the Church in peace. But God spoke for His servant,
and the bishop's accusers suffered the penalties they
had invoked. Then Narcissus returned to Jerusalem and
resumed his office. He died in extreme old age, bishop
to the last.
Reflection. God never fails those who trust in Him; He
guides them through darkness and through trials secretly
and surely to their end, and in the evening time there
is light.
