Detailed report provided by Mr John Sauze - available upon request.

Special Business - Guest Presenter

  • Ms Sue Dubbeld (Bendigo Bank) – Branch Manager of Bunyip and District Community Bank attended the meeting. Ms Dubbeld presented the P&F with information on the Community Bank and how it is helping local schools with sponsorships and grants. Questions were generated from the floor following this presentation.
  • The Community Bank branch has already donated $24,000 back to the local community in the last two years it has been in operation. One example – establishment of a remedial reading program in a local school.
  • “Piggy Bank Account” program is available for Grade 1 and 2 at schools. This fee free bank account is targeted at 2 to 11 year old children.
Further discussion to occur regarding grant and/or sponsorship opportunities for the College.

School Building Plan Update

  • Some hold-up in the building plan submitted to Council due to objections from the public mostly concerning removing 'significant' trees and obstruction of views. Not of any particular concern at this stage.
  • Plaque may be erected on 'significant' tree to signify importance.
  • Science building awning will be moved out further to allow for safe pickup of students when construction commences.
Old science building to be moved shortly - hopefully before next meeting.

Grant Update
$50K National Solar Schools Program grant approved for installation of solar PV system on new library. Tight timeframes are involved and construction needs to commence within next three months.

Dinner Auction Committee Update

  • STAC Annual Dinner Auction #9 to be held on Saturday 8 August 2009.
  • Committee requires volunteers for 'bid spotters' on the night. This would only take approx 45 minutes to fulfill.
  • Volunteers are also sought for set-up and heavy lifting on the day and night of the auction.
Major Raffle tickets are due back now. Please return tickets, sold or unsold and monies to Mrs Marion Pepping as soon as possible.

Secondary School Sun Hat Update
Staff are now to be consulted for style and colour choices to finalise the sun hat issue. ACTION: College to liaise with Mrs Anne Van Strijp for brochures and/or samples in order to make final selections. Their input will be given to the P&F and presented at next meeting in September.

BBQ Trailer Update

  • The BBQ Trailer is now securely housed in the bottom storage shed at STAC.
  • If anyone is wanting to hire the trailer please contact the office and they will refer it on to the Year 12’s.
Inquiry re whereabouts of the drink cooler section of the BBQ trailer – it is missing!

Purchase of Laptop for P&F Association

  • The purchase of a Dell laptop has been completed.
  • Currently the laptop is being used by the Dinner Auction Committee until after the event, at which time it will be put towards other P&F activities.

Miscellaneous

  • Some minor concerns were raised regarding the level of communication between STAC Administration and Parents. Example provided was the lack of notification involving staff changes within the Primary School. Current messages are conveyed verbally from teachers to students to parents. Father Delsorte emphasised that these types of decisions at short notice are the prerogative of the Principal and Vice Principal.
Student health alert for swimming lessons – thongs were recommended by parents due to the potential spread of warts.

Questions on Notice (from previous meeting)

  • Re: possible 'mock interviews' between students and Cardinia Council.
  • STAC has had offers from other sources for this type of service.
  • These scenarios are not considered to be of spiritual value to STAC students as they require students to spruik their own qualities.
  • Instead, STAC students should be known for their level of education and ability to present well.
  • The majority of our students are accepted into university and those that are looking for work usually obtain positions via word of mouth.
Possible career and university 'mentoring' system between students and past students/parents was canvassed and considered a more suitable option.

Questions on Notice (for next meeting)

  • Can we record and publish basic cross country, swimming and/or sports carnival results?
  • What is the process for Year 12 Tertiary Application and how can the 'disadvantaged student' status work for STAC students?
  • What is the Cambridge system and how will it work?
  • Can we know more about the introduction of a unique Victorian Student Number for each child?
  • What are the new regulations for school leavers aimed at keeping them at school for longer?
  • Where can parents and teachers go to view the proposed building plans?

Next meeting 7 September 2009.

Meeting adjourned at 8.40pm.
