Dear
Parents,
The second
quarter of this year has begun in a well-ordered and peaceful
manner and it is in this atmosphere that both intellectual
and moral formation can take place. Primary School parents
have had an opportunity to meet with the teachers of their
children and parents of Secondary students will have that
opportunity this coming week – it is the occasion to
verify achievement and behaviour and parents are encouraged
to take advantage of these occasions.
* Anzac
Day: we must not forget the sacrifices that our forebears
have made to forge this nation, those who laid down their
life in battle and all those who have worn the uniform of
our armed forces. The School will be represented at the Tynong
service on Anzac Day and a Requiem Mass will be offered for
the Faithful Departed. You are encouraged to attend either
or both of these according to your means.
* Corpus
Christi: this year Father Niklaus Pfluger (there are 5 Fr
Pflugers!), the First Assistant to the Superior General will
be on an official visit to Tynong. Consequently he will offer
a Solemn Mass and carry the Blessed Sacrament in the Procession
on the Feast of Corpus Christi itself. It is important that
these very significant liturgical Feast days are very much
a part of the childrens’ life.
Father
Black will accompany Father Pfluger here and a presentation
will be made to them concerning the development of the School
and Priory for the years to come. You are asked to keep this
intention in your prayers.
Parents
are asked to note that when the Secondary boys are playing
football they need to be in their sports uniform in order
to protect their expensive school uniforms, though they must
still have their sports uniform available for PE classes.
I would
like to say a little word about the importance of patience.
Perfection is not to be found in this world. At the Last Supper
the Apostles debated amongst themselves “which of them
should seem to be the greater.” Archbishop Goodier comments
on this: “Jesus listened, silent and apart, to all their
busy wrangling. Poor little creatures! How often had He listened
to this kind of thing before! Would they never learn? ...
But He would continue to be patient with them.”
Elsewhere
Our Lord says very simply – in your patience you will
possess your soul.
As parents and educators we have to be patient. WE have to
be patient! It is unrealistic to ask of our children what
we are not prepared to do ourselves. The drama of growing
up and maturing is that, along the way, children are impulsive
and lack judgement: they do not see the consequences of their
actions. Parents and teachers have a responsibility to oversee
and protect children; this is a sacred responsibility for
the formation of future citizens of Heaven. But as God has
been, and still is, so patient with us, we must also be patient
with those in our care. This is not the abnegation of our
custodial role, but a quality that that custodial role must
have. When we are firm, but patient, in the supervision of
our children, God’s grace is there and both child and
custodian will advance in that grace. May this become our
aim as we continue in this academic year.

SCHOOL
PHOTO DAY
TUESDAY 30th April is School Photo Day.
Normally you are asked to send the forms on the day however,
we are happy to accept them at the office prior to the day.
This will hopefully counteract anyone forgetting to bring
them on the actual day. Every student is photographed even
if you are not purchasing. The photographs are given to the
college so that we have up to date photos of all students.
(This saves the parents having to send a new photo of their
child every year for our records.)
THANK
YOU

A Tribute to ANZAC
Day
With
their hair a little whiter, their step not quite so sure
Still they march on proudly as they did the year before.
Theirs were the hands that saved us, their courage showed
the way
Their lives they laid down for us, that we may live today.
From Gallipoli's rugged hillsides, to the sands of Alamein
On rolling seas and in the skies, those memories will remain.
Of airmen and the sailors, of Lone Pine and Suvla Bay
The boys of the Dardenelles are remembered on this day.
They fought their way through jungles, their blood soaked
desert sands
They still remember comrades who rest in foreign lands.
They remember the siege of old Tobruk, the mud of the Kokoda
Trail
Some paying the supreme sacrifice with courage that did not
fail.
To the icy land of Korea, the steamy jungles of Vietnam
And the heroic battle of Kapyong and that epic victory at
Long Tan.
Fathers, sons and brothers, together they fought and died
That we may live in peace together, while at home their mothers
cried.
When that final bugle calls them to cross that great divide
Those comrades will be waiting when they reach the other side.

Imagine
yourself in Vienna for an evening... the most romantic city
in the world…The World Stadium Tour 'A Romantic Night
in Vienna' will take place against the background of the biggest
transportable set ever: André Rieu and his Johann Strauss
Orchestra and Choir, many well-known soloists, the Platinum
Tenors, the Vienna State Opera Ballet, 80 Vienna Debutantes,
the golden coach with the Empress Sisi and Emperor Franz-Joseph,
the Vienna Figure Skating Association, famous skating champions,
traditional Viennese horse-drawn carriages with horses and
footmen, a complete golden ballroom with real golden chandeliers,
fabulous costumes, gorgeous music, magical waltzes and so
much more…
Feel
as though you have travelled to Europe without leaving the
city! Be dazzled by the mastery of the orchestra, Rieu's own
violin playing, as well as musical melodies from the accompanying
choir.
André
Rieu's unique and exuberant style makes his show one of the
most talked about in the world. Fans spend more time dancing
in the aisle than sitting in their seats.

Saint
of the Day
APRIL
17th: St Anicetus, Pope, Martyr.
ST. ANICETUS
succeeded St. Pius, and sat about eight years, from 165 to
173. If he did not shed his blood for the Faith, he at least
purchased the title of martyr by great sufferings and dangers.
He received a visit from St. Polycarp, and tolerated the custom
of the Asiatics in celebrating Easter on the 14th day of the
first moon after the vernal equinox, with the Jews. His vigilance
protected his flock from the wiles of the heretics Valentine
and Marcion, who sought to corrupt the faith in the capital
of the world.
The first
thirty-six bishops at Rome, down to Liberius, and, this one
excepted, all the popes to Symmachus, the fifty-second, in
498, are honored among the Saints; and out of two hundred
and forty-eight popes, from St. Peter to Clement XIII. seventy-eight
are named in the Roman Martyrology. In the primitive ages,
the spirit of fervor and perfect sanctity, which is nowadays
so rarely to be found, was conspicuous in most of the faithful,
and especially in their pastors. The whole tenor of their
lives breathed it in such a manner as to render them the miracles
of the world, angels on earth, living copies of their divine
Redeemer, the odor of whose virtues and holy law and religion
they spread on every side.
Reflection.—If,
after making the most solemn protestations of inviolable friendship
and affection for a fellow-creature, we should the next moment
revile and contemn him, without having received any provocation
or affront, and this habitually, would not the whole world
justly call our protestations hypocrisy, and our pretended
friendship a mockery? Let us by this rule judge if our love
of God be sovereign, so long as our inconstancy betrays the
insincerity of our hearts.
